Juninho Tigres, also known as Juninho Pernambucano, is a retired Brazilian footballer who played as a midfielder. He earned his nickname "Pernambucano" as a reference to his birthplace, Pernambuco, in northeastern Brazil.
Juninho began his professional career with Sport Recife in 1993 before moving to Vasco da Gama in 1995. He enjoyed great success at Vasco da Gama, winning the Brasileirão in 1997 and the Copa Libertadores in 1998. In 2001, he moved to Lyon where he won seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles and became known for his exceptional free-kick ability.
Juninho joined Tigres UANL, a Mexican football club, in 2013 and played for six seasons before retiring in 2019. He was a key player for Tigres in their 2015 Apertura and 2016 Apertura title-winning campaigns.
Juninho was also a regular member of the Brazilian national team, earning 47 caps and scoring 6 goals. He was part of the 2006 World Cup squad and played in all five of Brazil's matches.
After retiring from football, Juninho has worked as a football analyst and commentator for various media outlets.
